Scottish artist Joseph Farquharson painted Sheep Beneath Snow Encumbered Branches more than 100 years ago. Ken Stott, of Hallmark Cards, said the picture, of sheep in a snowy field under a setting sun, was one of the company's most popular Christmas cards.
DEFRA, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed this is the first famous painting to be possibly affected by the disease. However, other tests are being carried out in galleries and museums across the nation.
