
In fact the real reason for Darwin's crabs being in the news was due to the University of Oxford has released images of specimens held in its museum collections that have been digitised for an online Darwin database. The crustaceans changed hands several times after Darwin's return to Britain, before fading into obscurity.
The University who are the current owners of the collection are looking into the matter as it is believed to be the work of a student as part of the universities rag week. The investigators are we are informed, looking in to the matter with a fine tooth comb.
